Trait has proved a huge hit with coffee fans – and those like me with a sweet tooth – since it launched its flagship store in Belfast city centre over the summer.
Now well established in the historic Imperial Buildings on High Street, there’s always a great buzz whatever time of the day you swing by for a quick coffee. An added bonus is the chance to spy the latest delectable offerings being whipped up next door at its live bakery.
As a regular visitor on office days, I had the pleasure of being invited along by the team to see what happens on the premises after dark! After dishing out coffee and pastries by day, from late evening, Trait Late takes over, serving up wine, cheese, house made breads and more.
Just weeks after its launch, Trait Late is the city’s newest go-to evening spot. The wine bar, in conjunction with Belfast cheesemonger Mike’s Fancy Cheese, launched in late September and opens from 5pm through to 9pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Couples, friends and groups are all made welcome from the moment they step inside and are well looked after by manager Emily, her colleague Ben and the whole team, who all have great knowledge of their craft.
Chatting with them while ordering and being guided through the various tasty offerings and accompanying drinks, you get the immediate impression that they know what they’re talking about.
Never one to pass up the chance of great food and a drink or two, Belfast Live videographer Justin Kernoghan came along to check out Trait Late too.
Never known to have an empty glass in her hand for long, I started off with a taste of Strange Bru Fernao Pires – South Africa’s zesty twist on a Portuguese classic. It was vibrant and easy-drinking with enticing aromas of tropical fruits, citrus and a touch of florals.
Then on Emily’s recommendation, I moved over to France and tried Basic Instinct Pet Nat, a naturally sparkling white of white and citrus fruits and a perfect pre-weekend tipple.
As the nights draw in and Christmas moves ever closer, Trait Late is already proving itself as the perfect evening stop off for a quick glass of wine and a nibble and just as good for a night out with friends or a date night for couples.
