The Belfast Christmas Market will not host a Santa’s Grotto in 2025, organisers have confirmed. With less than two weeks to go until the highly anticipated festive event returns to Belfast City Hall for its 21st year, excitement is building as preparations get underway.
The market will run from Saturday, November 15 to Monday, December 22 this year, allowing for an anticipated one million guests to visit from across the UK and Ireland.

However, those who are hoping to take their picture with Santa in his grotto may have to make plans to visit him elsewhere this festive season.
Market Place, operators of the Belfast Christmas Market, has confirmed that Santa will be taking a break from his grotto this year but will still make a visit to the market weekly.
In a news release ahead of opening week, a spokesperson said: “Although Santa Claus is taking a well-deserved break from his grotto this year, he won’t be far!
“Keep your eyes peeled for the big man in red as he makes his weekly stroll through the market, spreading cheer, sharing sweet treats, and rewarding those on the nice list.
“Capture magical moments inside the giant snow globe or gather around the fire to toast delicious marshmallows – creating cherished memories to last well beyond the season.”
Last year, charity Kids Together Belfast delivered an accessible, inclusive Santa’s Grotto for local families at the Belfast Christmas Market.
There will still be plenty for the little ones to do at a visit to the market, with the traditional carousel, the vintage Helter Skelter, and lots of delicious stalls to explore.
Belfast Christmas Market will open in the gardens of Belfast City Hall at 12noon on Saturday 15 November and run until 6pm on Monday 22 December.
