Police say man stated that he needed to conduct checks at the property and was allowed entry by the female resident, a woman aged in her 80s
The PSNI has issued an appeal after the report of a ‘distraction style burglary’ in Co Tyrone.
It’s reported to have happened at a house in the Derg View area of Castlederg, on Wednesday October 22. It was reported to police that a man called to a property “purporting to be from the Housing Executive”, at some time between 10am and 11am.
A PSNI statement added: “The man stated that he needed to conduct checks at the property and was allowed entry by the female resident, a woman aged in her 80s.

“When the man left the property, the resident noticed that a sum of money had been taken from her purse.
“The man is described as being aged in his 30’s and wore work clothes and was carrying a notepad and pen.
“Enquiries into this incident are continuing and detectives would appeal to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area on Wednesday morning, to contact them at Strand Road on 101 quoting reference number 817 22/10/25.
