The former UKIP London Assembly, who last appeared on the TV channel in May, took to social media to issue the heartbreaking health update

GB News presenter Peter Whittle has disclosed he is fighting cancer.

The former UKIP London Assembly member, who last featured on the television channel in May, used social media to share the devastating health news.

He disclosed that he was diagnosed with stage four oesophageal cancer during that same month.

Mr Whittle said: “Now, over recent weeks, many thoughtful and kind people have been inquiring about my health and whether everything is as it should be.

“Well, I’ve been thinking that perhaps the time has come to be open and straight with you about my situation.

“Early this year, in May, I was diagnosed with stage four oesophageal cancer. As we all know, there is no stage five.

“My cancer is apparently a very rare one and highly aggressive.

“Since that time, I have undergone chemotherapy treatments, which unfortunately have not worked,” reports the Express.

“But there are other channels remaining and I am currently waiting on the possibility of inclusion in a clinical trial.

“All the while, I am very fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful and loving people.

“I am otherwise, oddly enough, fit and well. And other than a rather radical different hairstyle, things have remained much the same.”

Mr Whittle also revealed his diagnosis prompted him to reassess his life and implement significant changes, including moving forward the date of his wedding to his husband Kurt.

He further stated that his think tank, the New Culture Forum, will continue “absolutely as before”.

The organisation is set to celebrate its 20-year anniversary next year, and Mr Whittle expressed his commitment saying he “will do my very, very best to make sure that I see you there”.

He held the position of deputy leader of UKIP under Paul Nuttall from 2016 to 2017.

Mr Whittle ended his membership with UKIP in protest at Gerard Batten’s leadership in December 2018.

Following this, he took on the role of leader of the new Brexit Alliance in the London Assembly and served as chairman of the Assembly’s audit panel.
