Emmerdale fans are convinced that killer John Sugden will be making his return to the village a lot sooner than people think, and it won’t be during the Corrie crossover
Emmerdale fans could be in for a surprise with the potential return of villain John Sugden, played by Oliver Farnworth, sooner than expected.
Last seen on the ITV soap in September, he made his escape from the village after his reign of terror was exposed.
The character, an army medic, is notably known for murdering Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) and abducting Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), holding him captive in an underground bunker at his old family home.
Despite many wanting to see John face justice for his crimes, he managed to flee the Dales in the back of a lorry and move abroad, after blackmailing Caleb Miligan (William Ash).
Since his departure, there has been no news of John’s whereabouts. However, Nate’s father Cain (Jeff Hordley) has left the village in an attempt to track him down, reports the Daily Star.
Interestingly, in September, a wanted poster of John was spotted by fans at the police station on rival soap Coronation Street, ahead of a historic crossover episode set to air early next year.
While some fans speculate that John might return during the ‘Corriedale’ episode, others believe he’ll be back even sooner. On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one viewer asked: “So is that it with John then? Will he be back to face the consequences?”.
Viewers quickly joined the conversation, with one fan predicting: “Christmas I reckon he will be back.” Another echoed this sentiment, adding: “Yeah I think Christmas.” A different viewer speculated: “I don’t think it will be the crossover.”
Earlier this year, the groundbreaking crossover between Corrie and Emmerdale was announced. For the first time in British soap history, the two beloved soaps will unite for a unique hour-long special episode.
The much-anticipated ‘Corriedale’ is set to air on ITV, STV, ITVX and YouTube in early 2026. This landmark event will kickstart the new power hour schedule, with each soap airing 30-minute episodes every weekday – Emmerdale at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm.
As filming commences, specifics about the stunt and the characters involved remain a closely guarded secret.
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
