Vandals destroyed a wetland platform
Mayor of Ards and North Down Gillian McCollum has condemned the suspected arson of an eco-plastic platform at Crommelin Woods in Donaghadee, which occurred on the weekend.
The platform was installed by the Donaghadee Community Development Association as part of their work to enhance the woodlands for the benefit of the town.
Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Gillian McCollum added, “DCDA is a wonderful organisation and I am full of praise for their efforts across Donaghadee.

“The Crommelin Wood project is a fantastic initiative, and I am so saddened to see this reckless behaviour set it back. I utterly condemn this deliberate burning down of the platform and urge the public to work with PSNI to ensure there are consequences for this action.”
Alliance Councillor John Hennessy of Bangor East and Donaghadee said: “The senseless destruction of the platform is such a depressing act of vandalism. It benefits no one and takes away from all of us who want to see Donaghadee flourish.
“Donaghadee Community Development Association is full of people who are incredibly dedicated and enthusiastic about their town, and they do not deserve to see their hard work literally go up in flames. If anyone has any information that may help police address this ongoing anti-social behaviour, I would ask them to report it.
“The association’s plan to restore the wetland and expand the woodland area is really commendable, and I am pleased that they are not deterred. When finished, it will be a brilliant resource for local people and visitors, whilst facilitating nature recovery and providing habitats for wildlife.”
