The defender will miss Ireland’s World Cup qualifier with Portugal on Saturday
Liam Scales has been ruled out of Ireland’s World Cup qualifying match against Portugal. The Celtic star will miss Saturday’s game at Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon due to a family bereavement, but he is set to rejoin the squad in Dublin for Tuesday’s clash with Armenia at Aviva Stadium.
The FAI expressed their condolences in a statement: “Our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.”
QPR defender Jimmy Dunne has been called up to the Ireland squad and will join the team in Lisbon later today.
There are no major fitness worries for Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson, as both Evan Ferguson and Troy Parrott have successfully completed training this week. Roma forward Ferguson was initially a doubt due to an ankle problem sustained in Italy, while AZ Alkmaar’s Parrott had been sidelined with a knee ligament injury.
However, both players are now back in contention at a critical point in Ireland’s struggling qualifying campaign, reports the Irish Mirror.
