Emmerdale is set to air more drama for the King family – and fans fear it will lead to one member of the family leaving the Dales for good

Emmerdale viewers are worried that the departure of beloved character Nicola King may be imminent.

Nicola, portrayed by Nicola Wheeler, first graced the soap in 2011 and quickly became a fan favourite with her role as the village busybody.

She has been at the heart of numerous major storylines, from enduring physical and psychological trauma to her cherished romance with Jimmy King, played by Nick Miles. Nicola’s tenure in the Dales has certainly been filled with drama.

This week’s episodes have seen tensions rise as Nicola’s adopted son Carl King Jr was assaulted by Dawn Taylor’s (Olivia Bromley) son Lucas at school.

Next week’s spoilers reveal that Carl is questioned by the police after an inappropriate image of Lucas’ sister Clemmie Reed is shared online. During the interrogation, Carl confesses to distributing the photo, reports the Daily Star.

Nicola maintains that Carl has learned his lesson, but the police are not willing to overlook the incident and inform the King family that they are treating the matter very seriously, much to their astonishment.

However, with more turmoil on the horizon, fans are speculating that a King family member could be leaving the show – and it’s not Carl Jr. On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, viewers are suggesting that Nicola might end up behind bars after “taking the blame” for Carl King Jr’s unlawful actions.

Responding to the new issue-focused storyline, one viewer commented: “I can see Nicola taking the blame for this [Carl sending the indecent image of Clemmie].”

Another person added: “Maybe but it could mean prison wouldn’t it?”. A third commented: “I can see her lying and saying it was her.” Another devastated fan wrote: “Don’t say that, I really like Nicola!” Sharing similar sentiments, a fifth added: “I would be gutted.”

Discussing the storyline, actress Olivia, who portrays Dawn, revealed to Inside Soap: “I was really shocked when I first read this storyline because the children who are involved in it are so young… It’s a real problem.”

She continued: “I also think that [on] this side of the incident photographs, Dawn expected to have more time to be able to prepare her child for going out in the world. I think that’s what’s caught her off guard… I’m really glad we’re doing this story.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
