The alert is in place until 10pm tonight

The Met Office has issued a second weather warning for Northern Ireland on Thursday.

Storm Amy is set to bring disruption to the region on Friday, and into Saturday morning. But today, a Met Office warning is in place from 10am, to 10pm, for heavy rain.

A spokesperson said: “Heavy rain on Thursday may lead to some flooding and travel disruption. There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.

“There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.”

What should I expect?

  • Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life

The spokesperson continued: “Outbreaks of rain are likely at times on Thursday, becoming heavier and more persistent through the afternoon and early evening, before clearing to the east by Thursday night. Accumulations of 20-30 mm are likely fairly widely, with in excess of 40 mm possible over high ground.

“Given recent wet weather, this may lead to some flooding. It will also become rather windy for a time later on Thursday afternoon and into the evening, especially in the east with gusts along the coast potentially in excess of 50 mph.”
