Fionn McLaughlin is on the brink of winning the British F4 title at Brands Hatch and the Red Bull Junior driver says it would “mean everything” to him

Claiming the British F4 title at Brands Hatch “would mean everything” to Red Bull Junior driver Fionn McLaughlin.

The 17-year-old from Magherafelt enjoys a commanding 61.5-point advantage with just three races left at the season finale, and he could clinch the championship in Saturday’s opening encounter.

With the British F4 rookie crown already secured with two rounds to go in his debut single-seater campaign, McLaughlin would love to make it a double.

“It would mean everything. I haven’t won a championship since I was seven years old,” he said.

“You work your whole life towards these things. To be a rookie champion and a British F4 champion would be amazing.

“This year I’ve done well and I’ve put myself in a good spot to take the championship.”

McLaughlin has excelled since making the leap to British F4, claiming five victories and securing seven additional podium finishes.

With a 61.5-point lead over Jimmy Piszcyk and Martin Molnar the Hitech Grand Prix ace needs a a 42-point buffer after Saturday’s race to seal the title before Sunday’s concluding two encounters.

“Coming into the last round I am 61.5 points ahead which is great. I’m pleased with how it has went and I’m grateful for how I’ve done.

“I can wrap it up after race one on Saturday, but I’m not really focusing on that. I just want to do a good job and enjoy this weekend as it’s my last weekend racing in F4.

“When you’ve a big lead the pressure disappears. If I was coming into the weekend only 10 or 20 points ahead then I would feel a lot more pressure.

“To come away with a couple more wins before the end of the season would be great.”

Sean Reid, Commercial Director, The Johnstown Collection, said: “We are delighted to support Fionn McLaughlin at such a pivotal stage in his racing career.

“His journey from karting talent to rising single-seater contender mirrors our own ethos: nurturing high performance while fostering recovery, wellness and a premium guest experience.”
