PARIS — Kilian Paris is expanding into more of a lifestyle brand, with the launch of scented bath and body products, and fragranced candles.
The new offers fall under the moniker La Maison Kilian.
“One is the natural extension of perfume, which is the body lotion and shower gel of existing scents,” said Kilian Hennessy, founder and creative director of the namesake brand.
The body lotion and hand and body wash come with the fragrances of Kilian Paris’ global hero products, which include Good Girl Gone Bad; Angels’ Share, and Love, Don’t Be Shy. Sacred Wood is a bestseller in Asia, particularly in China.
“It’s offering to my customers a way to layer the scents that they like for different occasions of their lives,” Hennessy said.

It also avoids his fragrances from being mixed with other brand’s products on people’s skin. A challenge was formulating bath and body products that evoke a similar emotion to a perfume, according to Hennessy.
“It’s a bit of a tricky and long development process,” he said, adding that took about two years.
The products are refillable, like the Kilian Paris fragrances.
“With the team, we worked in order to have a candle that would be stunningly different from everything that exists on the market,” Hennessy continued.
They envisioned a more religious, pillar candle carved in the shield motif found on the side of Kilian Paris’ fragrance bottles.
“It’s wonderful, because the candle burns evenly from within,” said Hennessy, who conceived scents for candles that could be used in every room of the house. “You don’t want in your bedroom the same scent that you would put in the living room or in the kitchen. There is a creation that is very specific when you think about a home scent.”
Three were chosen for the candle line’s launch. One, called Jasmin Andalousie, was created around la dama di noche, which is a white flower in the south of Spain, where Hennessy lives, that only blooms — and gives off its heady odor — at night.
Another scent, Tabac Kentucky, is inspired by the tobacco leaves grown in Kentucky, which Hennessy finds alluring and chic. They also reminded him of the tobacco his grandfather smoked in his pipe.

The third fragrance, Cuir Venise, contains an olfactive accord of leathers. The candles contain 10 percent fragrance — among the highest concentration in the industry.
They will launch on Wednesday, while the bath and body line was introduced early this month.
A 250-ml. body lotion retails for $90 and a 250-ml. hand and body wash for $80. The large, 550-gram pillar candle, which burns up to 100 hours, goes for $225, while the small, 250-gram candle, which lasts 50 to 60 hours, costs $125. A candle holder is $110.
“La Maison category is today one of our key strategic brand pillars,” said Rita Pioche, global marketing director of Kilian Paris, which belongs to the Estée Lauder Cos. She explained it’s part of the brand’s acceleration plan for fragrance.
“With the home category, we are going after the fastest-growing subcategory in La Maison,” she continued. “It was very important for us during the whole development not to compromise at any stage on the quality of the products.”
Kilian Paris plans to continue to expand the segment.
