Emmerdale fans are convinced that a returning legend will be the one to kill off John Sugden, as the twisted character goes on the run from the village
Emmerdale’s John Sugden, played by Oliver Farnworth, might be about to meet his comeuppance at the hands of a returning soap legend, if fan theories are to be believed.
John made his first appearance on the ITV soap last year, arriving as the long-lost son of Jack Sugden (Clive Hornby), and quickly stirred up a storm of drama.
Earlier this year, it was unveiled that John was behind the murder of Nate Robinson (Jurrell Carter) in September 2024. In an attempt to hide his crime, John disposed of Nate’s body in a river, but when the body was found, he managed to pin the blame on an innocent party.
However, recent episodes have seen the truth about John emerge, with the entire village now aware of his heinous acts – including Nate’s father, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), reports the Daily Star.
This week saw John trying to flee, blackmailing Caleb Miligan (William Ash) into assisting him. As the net tightens around John, fans speculate that a figure from his past could return to bring him down.
Online chatter suggests that Ella Forster (Paula Lane) could be the one to end John. Viewers will remember that Ella debuted in 2024, with a backstory revealing she had killed a friend during her childhood.
John exploited Ella’s past, framing her for a string of crimes during her time on the soap. These included drugging her romantic rival at Chas Dingle’s (Lucy Pargeter) engagement party to Ella’s former partner Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson).
Ella maintained her innocence throughout the ordeal, but Chas and Liam weren’t having any of it. With John painting Ella as the culprit, the entire village turned their backs on her, sending her mental wellbeing into a devastating downward spiral.
Things reached breaking point in April when she lashed out at Liam with a rock, leading to her immediate arrest and subsequent imprisonment.
However, devoted viewers are now speculating that Ella might be plotting her return to exact revenge and eliminate John once and for all.
On a dedicated Emmerdale Facebook fan group, one supporter declared: “You know who needs to kill John off? Ella, especially as she was set up by him if you remember.”
Another enthusiastic fan exclaimed: “I’d love it if she returned!”. A third viewer eagerly added: “If this happens and she kills him, finally! Been too long.” Meanwhile, someone else chimed in with: “That would be good, justice for Ella!”
