Odhran Murdock was in fine form for St Mary’s while defending champions Kilcoo have been drawn to face Clonduff in the last four

Morgan Fuels Down SFC quarter-final: Burren 4-16 Glenn 0-10

Burren powered past Glenn with a facile 18-point victory to set up a semi-final meeting with Carryduff.

Defending champions Kilcoo will face Corduff in what is a repeat of their round two clash from earlier this month.

St Mary’s also defeated Carryduff at the semi-final stage last season.

Burren’s Championship prospects were dealt a huge blow when Down ace Danny Magill suffered a season-ending ACL injury last month.

They were also without Armagh defender Paddy Burns and they suffered a suffer loss before throw-in when Paddy McCarthy was withdrawn from their starting line-up.

Indeed, Glenn were much the better team in the opening quarter with midfielder Cian Lyons scoring inside the first 20 seconds and he added another minutes later after Tiaran O’Brien crashed a shot off the crossbar and over.

Burren’s first few attempts dropped short before captain Ryan Treanor opened their account from a free.

Patrick Brooks and Murdock swapped points before a goal against the run of play turned the tide in Burren’s favour.

Ryan Magill was awarded a free, but he didn’t need it as he played a neat one-two with Ryan Cunningham before rifling a shot beyond the reach of John O’Hare.

Murdock then took control of proceedings around the middle third. With his full-forward line sucking the Glenn defenders towards goal, the Down star was able to kick points for fun as Burren increased their advantage before half-time.

He scored three excellent long-range points while Ronan McLaughlin managed to tag on a point for Glenn before the break as St Mary’s led 1-9 to 0-5 at the short whistle.

Stephen O’Hare’s men were relentless in the second half, scoring three more goal and holding Glenn to five points once more.

Glenn’s luck quickly went from bad to worse when their full-back Oisin Murphy turned the ball into his own net following a cross from Niall Toner.

As both teams rang the changes midway through the second half, Donal O’Hare and Liam Kerr were introduced for Burren and had an immediate impact.

O’Hare scored his side’s third goal within one minute of coming on while he played a delightful pass moments later to create their fourth.

Toner won possession from O’Hare’s pass and teed up Kerr for a well-taken goal.

Cunningham forced John O’Hare to make a fine save while Shay Millar was denied late on by Burren goalkeeper Oisin McStay.

Burren scorers: Odhran Murdock 0-4, Liam Kerr 1-1, Ryan Treanor 0-4 (0-3fs), Oisin Murphy 1-0 (OG), Donal O’Hare 1-0, Paddy Burns 0-2, Ryan Cunningham 0-2, Dara Mussen 0-1, Ronan McGrath 0-1, Niall Toner 0-1.
