ITV’s chief has disclosed that Celebrity Big Brother might be heading for a channel switch as part of major changes.

The celebrity edition of the popular reality programme broadcast on ITV1 this year – generating buzz due to divisive contestant Mickey Rourke.

However, it’s now been hinted that it could shift to ITV2 as it’s “so difficult” securing the major stars required for the primary channel.

Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director, Media and Entertainment, discussed the programme’s future whilst at Edinburgh TV Festival, according to The Sun.

He confessed he was presently “in a battle” regarding the expense of bringing Celebrity Big Brother back, though made it evident he was enthusiastic as it’s a “really important, crucial show”, reports OK!.

Confirming they were “looking at” the series, Lygo stated: “We’re thinking NOT on the main channel, that’s the answer. It’s so difficult now to book big celebrities, famous people, which is what we need on the main channel. Whereas you can go more interesting and niche on ITV2.”

He mentioned that “we’re in a battle with Endemol about the price” of the series, which is presented by AJ Odudu and Will Best, though he remained a strong supporter.

“It does really well for us on ITVX,” he said. “It’s a really important, crucial show. I love it and it does a tremendous job for us so, yes, it’s coming back.”

This year’s series found itself under scrutiny due to Hollywood actor Rourke, who created uproar with some of his remarks. Big Brother was forced to issue him a formal warning following remarks he made to American celebrity JoJo Siwa about her sexuality.

He ultimately departed the house prematurely, with the broadcaster stating it came after “use of inappropriate language” and “instances of unacceptable behaviour”.
