Emmerdale’s Mackenzie Boyd star Lawrence Robb has spoken out ahead of a huge twist involving his character set to air this Thursday (21 August)
Emmerdale’s Mackenzie Boyd star Lawrence Robb has broken his silence on a huge twist involving his character.
In upcoming scenes set to air on Thursday, 21 August, viewers will finally see the last of the flashbacks that were teased at New Year.
On Wednesday’s instalment, 20 August, it ended on a cliffhanger with Mackenzie looking in one of John Sugden’s, played by Oliver Farnworth, scrapbooks and seeing a photograph.
Soap watchers will recall that John was responsible for Nate Robinson’s death last year during the barn fire. He has gone to extreme lengths to cover up Nate’s death, including letting Owen Michaels die and writing a fake suicide letter on his laptop, confessing to Nate’s death.
As the penny started to drop for Mackenzie on Wednesday night, who has always been suspicious of John, the episode ended on a cliffhanger, reports Leicestershire Live.
And now, Emmerdale has teased of Thursday’s episode: “The drama continues as John works out that Mackenzie is joining up the pieces. What will John do to protect his secrets? Before long we see Mackenzie running for his life..”
Teasing the ITV soap twist and upcoming scenes, actor Lawrence, 34, who plays Mackenzie, said: “Last New Year we saw a handful of flashbacks and the one of Mack running has not been seen in an episode yet…
“We actually filmed that flashback last October and we finally will be seeing it within the show. In the original flashback the audience members didn’t know why Mackenzie was running. Was he chasing someone or was he running away from someone or something? At last all will be revealed.
“The flashback scene was filmed last October and at the time we didn’t know when it was going to play out within 2025 – so just in case there could be a future issue with hair continuity – as potentially I could have grown a mullet by the end of the year – we decided to stick a beanie hat on Mack.
“But this choice didn’t help with the heat as this time we were filming this episode in the height of summer. And for all the filming I had to have this beanie on. So I was very, very warm. But I’m excited for the audience to finally see it unfold and how it fits into Mack’s storyline.”
This comes as a spine-tingling new trailer shows Aaron Dingle, completely unaware of his husband’s dark deeds, suggesting to John that they should pack up and flee the village for a fresh beginning.
At the same time, John warns Mack in an ominous voice: “I’m guessing you’ve joined up the dots!”.
The scene then switches to Mack racing through woodland, which was a flash-forward sequence revealed earlier this year.
The trailer concludes with Mack begging for his life as he cries: “Please!” whilst John is shown striking something or someone with a massive stone as he announces: “I guess I really am the bad guy…”
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV and ITVX with an hour-long episodes on Thursday.
