A brand new thriller starring two ‘superb actresses’ is coming to ITV
Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker are teaming up for brand new ITV thriller Frauds. The icons will appear on-screen as former partners-in-crime who come back together for one final job.
The compelling six-part series, which has been described as a “heist drama with an emotional heartbeat,” is set to air on ITV1 and ITVX later this year but fans are already labelling it “TV gold” thanks to the star-studded lead cast.
BAFTA and RTS award-winning actresses Suranne and Jodie will star as complex duo Bert and Sam, skilled confidence tricksters who’ve been separated by an arduous 10-year prison sentence.
The series will follow the pair as their intertwined past resurfaces in the setting of Southern Spain after a decade of separation. Suranne is known for her roles in Maryland and Vigil, as well as Gentleman Jack and Doctor Foster, while Jodie made television history when she became the first woman to play the Doctor in Doctor Who. She is also known for her roles in Time and Toxic Town.

And following the first look for the “sun-drenched, high-stakes heist thriller,” ITV fans are beyond excited to see the pair in action.
Taking to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer wrote: “Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker in a heist thriller? Say no more — I’m in! This one’s got ‘must-watch’ written all over it. #Frauds #TVGold.”
While a second added: “Two superb actresses I’m looking forward to this,” and a third simply commented: “Yayyyyy.”
As well as starring in the series Suranne also co-created and directed the production alongside Anne-Marie O’Connor (Maryland, Hellraisers, Trollied).
Speaking about the series, she said: “Working on Frauds with Anne-Marie and Monumental for the last two years has been a wild ride. We took the idea of toxic female friendship and turned it on its head to give the heist genre an emotional heartbeat.
“I have always wanted to work with Jodie, and now I am. I hope you love Bert and Sam and all they get up to as much as we do.”
Also starring in the stellar cast is Elizabeth Berrington (Bookish, Ridley, In Bruges), Kate Fleetwood (Such Brave Girls, Mary and George) and Abdul Salis (Love Actually, F1: The Movie).
A synopsis reads: “As Sam has sought a low-key life, Bert’s release from a Spanish prison for compassionate reasons reignites her ambition for one final, significant score.
“On the pretext of one final, multi-million-pound art heist, Bert attempts to lure Sam out of retirement, but at what cost? Can Sam stay one step ahead of her former friend, who is clearly capable of treachery? Or will the push and pull of their toxic friendship see them both ruined before they are able to pull off the job?”
Frauds is set to air on ITV1 and ITVX later this year.
