Coronation Street has confirmed a beloved character will be taking a break from the cobbles
A popular Coronation Street actor is set to temporarily depart from the cobbles after a series of dramatic events.
This week on the soap, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) and Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) exchanged vows, but their wedding day didn’t go as smoothly as they’d hoped.
Before her nuptials, Bernie discovered her grandson Brody (Ryan Mulvey) attempting to burgle Dev’s home in an effort to gather funds to abscond with his younger sisters.

Bernie managed to reason with him. However, during the wedding, Bernie suddenly found herself struggling to breathe and was swiftly taken to hospital.
Thankfully, Bernie was alright and it was revealed she had suffered an allergic reaction to flowers. She then assembled her newly blended family at the hospital where she and Dev finally got hitched, reports the Daily Star.
Later, Dev’s son Aadi (Adam Hussain) confessed to his father about the insurance scam, which Bernie had helped conceal. Upon learning of Bernie’s involvement, Dev was initially furious but eventually forgave his new wife.
Spoilers for the upcoming week reveal that Bernie will take a temporary hiatus from the cobbles to embark on her honeymoon – solo.
Next week, Bernie attempts to convince Dev to employ Brody at the shop. However, when Aadi catches wind of what’s happening, he exposes Brody.
In his anger, he reveals that Brody was the one who brought drugs to the party a few weeks prior. At No. 7, Bernie suggests to Dev that they should delay their honeymoon and he should use this time to mend fences with Aadi.
Dev concurs but is adamant that Bernie must go alone as the break will do her good. Bernie gives him a tender kiss.
It’s unclear when exactly Bernie will be back, but given all the on-screen drama unfolding for her family, it seems she won’t be away for long.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
