The man was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday night after police and paramedics rushed to help
A man has died after falling from an upper tier of Wembley Stadium during an Oasis concert on Saturday night, police have confirmed.
The man, who was aged in his 40s, is believed to have been sat in the upper tier of the 90,000-capacity London stadium when the tragic incident occurred shortly after 10pm.
The Metropolitan Police said officers on duty at the stadium responded, alongside venue medics and the London Ambulance Service, at around 10.20pm but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A Met spokesperson said in a statement: “A man – aged in his 40s – was found with injuries consistent with a fall. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The stadium was busy, and we believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage.
“If you have any information that could help us to confirm what happened, please call 101.”
A witness said: “It was horrendous. The guy fell from a balcony. Paramedics came rushing over. There was a lot of screaming and shouting.
“It was a big fall. God knows how it happened. It was so tragic. I don’t know how on Earth it happened.“It was heartbreaking. He was only young.”
Another fan watched as the horror unfolded, with emergency services trying to revive the man after he hit the ground.
They said: “I was directly underneath in section 211. At first glance I thought it was a coat falling from the above tier but then I looked and saw the bloke on the concrete. It was horrific to see.”
It’s expected that the police will inform the Health and Safety Executive which could see a probe into the death launched.
Saturday’s concert was another sold-out show for Oasis and their fourth at Wembley Stadium.
Wembley Stadium said their concert on Sunday night will still be going ahead. A spokesperson said: “Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London Ambulance Service and the police attended to a concert-goer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall.
“Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers. The police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them. Tonight’s Oasis concert will go ahead as planned.”
The Britpop icons kick-started their Live ’25 Tour in Cardiff in July before heading home to Manchester for five nights.
Oasis are then due to perform two sold-out shows at Dublin’s Croke Park on August 16 and 17.
