I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmate Shona McGarty has admitted she’s “gutted” moments into the show.

Emotions were running high on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! following the departure of Alex Scott. The footballing legend was the first celebrity to be voted out of the ITV jungle, and her exit seems to have deeply affected some campmates.

After bidding farewell to her co-stars, they cheered her on as she crossed the bridge before returning to camp. At this point, Shona McGarty became emotional, holding back tears as she explained how Alex’s departure had impacted her.

She confessed to the Bush Telegraph: “Alex has just been so strong all the way through and she’s kept me going without probably even realising it.”

“I’m gutted that she’s gone, to be honest,” she added, “But camp life has to carry on. “

Before the public vote result was announced, Alex expressed “mixed emotions” about the possibility of being the first to be voted off.

She stated: “If it’s me, then it’s meant to be, it’s my time and I get to go and embrace my loved ones.

“I don’t want it to be over, but if it is, then hey I’ve had the best time ever. “

Alex was one of seven campmates at risk of elimination and seemed to be in good spirits when she crossed the bridge to meet Ant and Dec.

“It doesn’t feel real, you just live in that moment with the campmates,” she said, before reflecting: “It’s been such an incredible experience.

“Mentally, I did struggle missing home, but I’m so glad I got to do this series with such a great bunch of campmates.

“It’s tough in there – constantly going to get water and firewood,” she confessed, adding that she never anticipated having such a fantastic time in the jungle.

Alex also spoke about her strong connection with Shona during their time in camp, stating that their “quiet personalities” naturally drew them together.

When asked who she would like to see win the competition, she disclosed: “Shona. I think Ginge and Aitch are great – amazing to see them in the final – but to see Shona being made Queen of the Jungle would change her and give her the confidence to be brilliant at life.”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! will continue tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
