The five people were travelling in a Volkswagen Golf which was involved in a collision near Dundalk shortly after 9pm on Saturday night
Gardai have released the names of the five young individuals who tragically lost their lives in a horrific crash in Co Louth on Saturday evening.
The fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on the L3168 in the townland of Gibstown, Dundalk, just after 9pm, resulting in five fatalities and three others being rushed to hospital.
The victims who lost their lives in the tragedy outside Dundalk were:
- Chloe McGee, age 23 years, Carickmacross
- Alan McCluskey, age 23 years, Drumconrath
- Dillon Commins, age 23 years, Drumconrath
- Shay Duffy, age 21 years, Carrickmacross
- Chloe Hipson, age 21 years, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Family Liaison Officers have been assigned to each of the bereaved families to provide support, and An Garda Síochána will keep them updated on the progress of the ongoing investigation.

According to Gardai, the sixth occupant of the VW Golf involved in the Gibstown crash on the L3168 between Dundalk and Ardee has been hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries, reported the Irish Mirror.
The occupants of the Toyota Landcruiser involved in the collision, a man and a woman in their 20s, were also transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
A section of the L3168 remains closed between the N52 and the R171, pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit. Local traffic diversions are still in place.
Gardai have issued an appeal for any witnesses to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
They are particularly keen to hear from anyone with any information regarding this road traffic collision to get in touch with the investigation team at Dundalk Garda Station.
They have also urged anyone who was on the L3168 between 8.30pm and 9.15pm to get in touch with the Garda Investigation Team.
Anyone who may have any camera footage or images from the L3168, Gibstown area between 8.30pm and 9.15pm, on Saturday is also requested to provide that footage or images to the investigation team at Dundalk Garda Station.
