Emmerdale star Joe Absolom previously appeared in another ITV drama, where he played a very different character
Emmerdale viewers have been left floored by Ray Walters star Joe Absolom’s past ITV drama role.
Fans of the ITV soap will recall that drug dealer Ray first made his appearance in the Dales earlier this year when Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) contacted him about buying Lewis Barton’s (Bradley Riches) cannabis crop.
It later transpired that Ray was involved with youngster Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle), after he manipulated him into breaking into Butlers Farm to survey the property.
April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) has since been drawn into Ray and his wicked mother Celia Daniels’ (Jaye Griffiths) scheme, as she attempts to settle her boyfriend’s mounting debt.
That’s not all, as it was also revealed that Ray and Celia have been holding Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) hostage on their farm, reports the Daily Star.

Over three months ago, Bear was taken in by Ray and offered accommodation in return for hard labour, but he soon found himself trapped in a distressing situation.
Bear was repeatedly deceived by his captors, and suffered a serious injury, which Ray refused to have treated.
The standalone episode focusing on Bear also introduced newcomer Anya (Alia Al-Shabibi). The two formed a charming relationship, but a sequence of events soon spelled danger for both victims.
Bear’s son, Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), has been expressing concern for his father in recent scenes, but could a revelation in Friday’s (November 14) episode alter the direction of the storyline?
As Ray continues to cause chaos in the village, some fans have been left stunned after discovering that actor Joe once starred in ITV’s popular medical drama Doc Martin.
Joe notably portrayed Al Large in the much-loved series from 2004 to 2022. Al was the son of Bert Large (Ian McNeice), working with his father as a plumber and later in Bert’s restaurant.
Al was notably involved with Doc Martin’s (Martin Clunes) secretary, Pauline Lamb (Katherine Parkinson), before starting a relationship with Morwenna Newcross (Jessica Ransom). The couple tied the knot at the conclusion of season nine, with Joe Penhale (John Marquez) presiding over the wedding.
Taking to social media, Emmerdale fans have expressed their surprise at Joe’s previous role, with one individual posting on a Facebook fan page: “Just turned over the TV and our lovely gangster is on Doc Martin. I love this guy.”
“Omg I’d forgotten about this! I much prefer his character in Doc Martin. He is a great actor but I don’t like him playing nasty blokes,” another added, while a third commented: “Aww he was brilliant in that show.”
A fourth fan echoed these sentiments, exclaiming: “How am I just realising this? He looks so young! Love him.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and is available to stream from 7am on ITVX, while Doc Martin is available to stream on ITVX
