A statement from the PSNI on Tuesday said: “Road-users are advised that the Boleran Road area of Limavady, which was closed on Monday, 10th November, following a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a child pedestrian, has now reopened.”

The girl remains in the hospital at this time, being treated for injuries, which are described as critical. She was airlifted from the scene of the crash involving a lorry and a child pedestrian to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

Her local GAA club has asked for prayers for the former player and where her family are still members.

In a social media post, Ballerin GAA asked for prayers for the girl: “We ask our community to come together to pray for a young member who was injured in an accident this evening. The rosary will be said at 8pm in St Mary’s Church. Padre Pio pray for her”.

Neighbouring GAA clubs have also sent their thoughts and prayers to the young injured girl and her family at this time, as well as the Ballerin community.

In a statement on Tuesday, her school, Loreto College Coleraine, said: “As a school community and Loreto family we hold in prayer our Year 9 student, Sofia Mullan. We pray for her healing and recovery. We also pray for her parents, siblings, and wider family circle. We pray too for all those caught up in last night’s accident, especially the driver of the lorry and all the emergency services who attended the scene.

“We entrust them all into God’s hands. We ask God to guide the healing ministry of the doctors and nurses in The Royal Hospital for Sick Children who are caring for Sofia at this time. May Mary enfold them with her maternal mantle and may they feel God’s presence in the help and support of others in the difficult days ahead.”

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) spokesperson said yesterday: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 15:51 on Monday, 10th November, following reports of an RTC in the Boleran Road area, Coleraine.
