The new menu has the classics with a modern twist

2Taps has been a firm favourite in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter for 20 years now and to celebrate this milestone they have launched a brand new menu.

Known for its relaxed Mediterranean-inspired vibe, serving quality sociable small plates in a fun atmosphere and offering warm, community-based hospitality, 2Taps has long been a city-centre favourite. We were invited in to try out the new menu.

There was plenty to choose from on the menu with a range of starters including flatbread, a selection of cured meats and ‘fancy cheese’.

To get started we went for a bread board selection that came with olives, salsas, sweet pickles, tapenade and dipping oils. This is designed to share with 2 or more people, there’s definitely plenty of bread to go around.

It is recommended that when doing tapas you get 2-3 dishes each. The tapas included meat, seafood, vegan and vegetarian options. The first thing we picked on the menu was a no brainer and feels like it belongs with every tapas mea. We went for patatas bravas which are crispy potato cubes that came with tomato bravas sauce and aioli.

Next up on our list we went for the empanada. This was one large pastry filled with braised chicken thigh and chorizo ragù.

On our visit I asked the waiter what had been popular since they launched the new menu and he recommended the halloumi fries to us. These were halloumi sticks with a breadcrumb coating and the hot honey craze has landed at 2Taps because they came with a hot honey dip on the side.

Our final tapas selection went to the serrano ham and manchego croquetas which came with saffron aioli. There was also a vegetarian option of these available too which was nice to see.

It was also only right to expand our horizons beyond the tapas and check out what else was on the menu. 2Taps has become famous for its paella so we had to try one of them out. We ordered the paella de marisco which came with mussels, prawns, squid and seabass.

On the menu for desserts the was tirasmisú, burnt basque vanilla cheesecake and an ice cream bowl. However, there were also churros on the menu which we went for. You could choose between a dark chocolate sauce or salted caramel and both came with chantilly cream.

It didn’t stop at food and there were plenty of drinks on the menu too. We had tried out sangria verano which came with white wine, Regal Rogue vermouth, lemon juice, fresh mint and fruit and topped with lemonade.

The new menu is nostalgic while forward-thinking. Seasonal ingredients, carefully sourced from local suppliers, will remain at the heart of the offering, ensuring that every dish reflects the best of Northern Ireland’s natural larder.
