What has the Met Office said?

For the wind warning, the forecaster said: “Storm Amy is expected to bring a spell of strong winds to Northern Ireland later on Friday and into Friday night. South to southwesterly winds will increase during the afternoon, peaking during the evening with gusts of 50-60 mph in many areas, and potentially 60-70 mph in more exposed places, perhaps higher along parts of the north coast. Winds will slowly ease through Saturday.

“Strong winds will also be accompanied by spells of heavy rain, making for difficult driving conditions.”

What should I expect?

The Met Office say:

  • There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
