A flight attendant has shared a simple iPhone hack that will make navigating the airport a breeze – and you only need one app to make it work
Flying can be an incredibly stressful ordeal. You’re not just dealing with being squeezed alongside complete strangers for hours on end, but simply getting through the airport before you’ve even set foot on the aircraft can send your stress levels through the roof.
Getting through security checks can leave you feeling on edge, and attempting to locate your departure gate can sometimes feel like wandering through a labyrinth. However, one cabin crew member has revealed a far simpler method for finding everything you need within the airport without pulling your hair out. Even better, you’ll only need a single app on your mobile to make this hack work.
Cher, an American flight attendant, demonstrated in a TikTok clip that by opening Apple Maps on your iPhone and activating one particular setting, you can effortlessly navigate the airport and locate your gate within minutes.
She explained: “Not nearly enough people know that if you have the explore feature on your Apple Maps, you can zoom in and see your gate at the airport. You can also see all of the restaurants that are nearby at your terminal.
“Which means if you like to know exactly where you’re going, you can figure out how far your gate is from your security checkpoint, and you can see what food is available in the airport. If you want to order ahead, when you get to the airport, you can have your Starbucks coffee waiting for you in the mobile pick-up line.”
Cher also highlighted that the feature can be beneficial for those with connecting flights. It can help you determine the distance between your arrival and departure gates.
She further commented: “We all know that gate numbers are not reliable at airports because, for some reason, some airports want to use numbers and some want to use letters.”
The Explore function on Apple Maps is a standard map feature that allows you to view places, businesses, and points of interest. Although the airport might initially appear as a large grey building on the app, zooming in should reveal individual shops within the airport, as well as gate numbers at each terminal.
This differs from Apple Maps’ driving mode, which displays traffic conditions and emphasises roads.
Google Maps also offers a similar exploration feature for Android phone users, so you don’t have to feel stranded at the airport just because you don’t own an iPhone.
Viewers of the video were astounded by the hack, with many confessing they’d never considered opening their maps app at the airport before.
One individual exclaimed: “This is a game changer.”
Another added: “Girl! These are the tips I NEEDED to hear!”
A third penned: “This is exactly the type of traveller I am so THANK YOU.”
