The 56-year-old killer is due to appear at Ballymena court later today
Unlawfully at large murderer James Meehan has been extradited to Northern Ireland from the Republic.
The 56-year-old who escaped custody in December 2024 after being on day release has been extradited from the Republic of Ireland following his arrest in March and is due to appear in Ballymena Magistrates Court today, Tuesday, December 2.
Meehan was convicted of the murder of Derry man Jim McFadden in 2009.

A PSNI spokesperson: “Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have today, Tuesday, 2 nd December, extradited a 56-year-old man from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland. “The man, who had been serving a life sentence in prison following a murder conviction in 2009, was reported as being unlawfully at large in December 2024 after being on day-release and failing to return. “He is due to appear before Ballymena Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.”
