The FBI has released a series of photos and a video of a person of interest wanted in connection with the fatal shooting at a university in Utah

Five key pieces of evidence have surfaced in the search for Charlie Kirk’s murderer, with the FBI releasing unsettling footage of the suspected killer fleeing the scene.

The Conservative activist was shot and killed on Wednesday whilst delivering a talk at Utah Valley University, an act that has been labelled a “political assassination.”

Kirk’s coffin was transported aboard Air Force Two from Utah to Phoenix, where his non-profit political youth organisation, Turning Point USA, is headquartered. Donald Trump informed reporters of his intention to attend Kirk’s funeral.

The FBI has subsequently released a series of photographs and a video featuring a person of interest in relation to the fatal shooting.

According to Utah Governor, Spencer Cox, over 7,000 leads and tips have been submitted by the public so far. A reward of $100,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest, reports the Mirror.

Utah’s Department of Public Safety has released four images of the suspected shooter, believed to be of university age, wearing a black long-sleeved T-shirt adorned with an American flag, dark sunglasses, Converse trainers and a baseball cap. Here are five clues that the FBI hopes will aid their hunt for the gunman.

A palm print

Investigators stated that the suspect left behind palm print impressions after he was seen lying in the top left corner of a building before running across to the far right, climbing down, and dropping off the edge.

The FBI confirmed a “footwear impression” along with a forearm imprint were discovered, which may assist in their investigations.

Beau Mason, the commissioner of Utah’s Department of Public Safety, stated that the suspect “appears to be of college age.

“We have tracked his movements onto the campus, through the stairwells up to the roof, across the roof to a shooting location,” he said.

“After the shooting, we were able to track his movements as he moved to the other side of the building, jumped off of the building and fled off of the campus into a neighbourhood.”

Officers managed to recover a “high-powered, bolt action rifle” in a wooded area on campus they believe the suspect used.

According to authorities, the rifle was found wrapped in a towel with a spent cartridge still in the chamber.

The weapon is currently being analysed at an FBI laboratory for clues on the fatal shooting and the suspect. The New York Times also suggests it was an imported Mauser.

Transgender ideology’ ammo

According to an internal police memo, investigators recovered ammunition engraved with “transgender and anti-fascist ideology.”

There were three unused rounds all marked with writing. However, authorities stated that the messages may have been “misread or misinterpreted”.

‘Detailed planning’

The shooter, who authorities believe blended into the campus crowd due to a “college-age” appearance, fired a single shot from the rooftop, according to officials. Video footage released on Thursday showed them then walking across the grass and street, before vanishing.

“I can tell you this was a targeted event,” stated Robert Bohls, the leading FBI agent in Salt Lake City.

Brad Garrett, a retired FBI agent, suggested that the evidence so far indicates the shooting was meticulously planned, including discarding the gun along his escape route.

“He probably did that (as) he didn’t want to be seen carrying a weapon, running through a neighbourhood, or walking through a neighbourhood,” Garrett informed ABC News.
