The 38-year-old lost her life when the car she was driving was involved in a crash with a truck on the N2 in Castleshane, Co Monaghan on Wednesday
The woman who tragically lost her life in a horrific collision involving a car and a lorry in Monaghan has been named locally.
Aoife Lennon, 38, was driving when her car collided with a lorry on the N2 in Castleshane, Co Monaghan around 2.45pm on Wednesday, September 10.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Aoife, a resident of Derrynoose, Co Armagh and wife of a local Garda officer, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course. No other injuries were reported.

Following an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, the road has since reopened, reports the Irish Mirror.
Sinn Féin Councillor Niamh Mc Cooey spoke to the Irish Mirror about the “close-knit community’s” shared “collective grief that words can scarcely capture”.
She said: “Firstly, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the young woman who tragically lost her life yesterday. My thoughts and prayers are with them as they face an unimaginable loss and the heartbreak that comes with it.
“Ours is a close-knit community, and today we share in a collective grief that words can scarcely capture. The loss of such a young life is felt deeply by all who knew her, and by the wider community who mourn alongside her family.
“I would also like to acknowledge and commend the swift and dedicated response of An Garda Síochána, the National Ambulance Service, Monaghan Fire and Civil Defence, and Monaghan County Council. Their professionalism and compassion at the scene of yesterday’s accident is a testament to their commitment to serving and protecting our community in the most difficult of circumstances.”
Gardaí are urging anyone who may have witnessed this tragic incident to get in touch. A spokesperson for the Gardaí told The Irish Mirror: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision at Castleshane, Co Monaghan, on Wednesday, 10 September.”
They further stated: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 2:30pm and 2:50pm on Wednesday 10 September 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047 77200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
