Two teenagers have been arrested after PSNI interceptors stopped a car reported stolen.

An Audi vehicle, reported stolen earlier this month, failed to stop for officers on the A1 dual carriageway on September 8 and made off at speeds “up to 120mph”.

A 15-year-old driver and 17-year-old passenger were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Late last night Interceptors from Sprucefield alongside our colleagues from Road Policing (Mahon Road) were alerted to a suspect vehicle travelling Northbound on the A1 Dual carriageway.

“The vehicle, a White Audi A3 was reported to have been stolen as a result of a Burglary in ROI around 4th September.

“This vehicle was spotted by Interceptors in the Dromore area where it failed to stop and made off at speeds up to 120 mph.

“The stolen vehicle was successfully stung causing the two front tyres to slowly deflate causing the vehicle to reduce speed enabling the pursuit to be brought to a safe conclusion.

“As a result of the stop the 15-year-old driver and 17-year-old passenger, both from ROI were arrested for a number of offences including Dangerous driving, failing to stop for Police, suspicion of Burglary, going equipped for theft plus others.”

The spokesperson also added that at around the same time, another stolen ROI registered vehicle, a Gold Range Rover, was abandoned a short distance away.

The two arrested males are currently assisting the PSNI with their enquiries.
