“Havana Nights was a cornerstone of Belfast nightlife when it kicked off way back in 2000”
An iconic night of dancing is set to return to South Belfast to mark its 25th anniversary.
In the 2000s, The Belfast Empire opened up its basement for its famous Salsa Night transforming Fridays at the historic Botanic Avenue venue.
Kicking off every night with a free hour-long Salsa lesson, Chris Scullion from Salsa NI and his team brought rhythm to a generation of Belfast revellers before unleashing them on the dancefloor for a night of Latin vibes.

For one night and one night only, the space will once again be transformed into a little corner of Cuba.
Havana Nights will return to the Empire Basement for a one-off celebration on Friday, September 26 – with a free salsa lesson from 9pm until 10pm.
Stephen Bradley, Entertainment manager at the Belfast Empire, said: “Havana Nights was a cornerstone of Belfast nightlife when it kicked off way back in 2000, and it made perfect sense to bring it back for the 25th Anniversary.
“We know people have a lot of nostalgia for those nights – we still get messages online asking if we still do it.
“The Empire Basement still has live entertainment 7 nights a week – from our pub quiz on Monday to live acts all weekend, including our new Sunday Trad Session.
“It’s important that people know you’ll always find something going on in your favourite pub. We’d love to see any of our old regulars down, or anyone else who’s just a bit curious!”
Chris Scullion, from Salsa NI, added: “We’re absolutely delighted to be back where it all began – The Empire. Celebrating 25 Years of Havana Nights with music, memories and all your best moves. Come early, it’s going to be packed!”
