Michael Conlan is set to face Jack Bateson in a WBC international featherweight title bout on Friday night, with the fight taking place in Dublin
Belfast boxer Michael Conlan is preparing to face off against Jack Bateson for the WBC international featherweight title, marking a first-time bid for a WBC belt for both fighters.
Belfast-born Conlan, with roots in Drimnagh, Dublin courtesy of his father, holds an impressive 19-3 record. Having transitioned from amateur to professional boxing in 2017, Conlan has steadily climbed the ranks, culminating in a world title shot in 2022.
Despite a rough patch that saw him suffer back-to-back knockout losses to Luis Alberto Lopez and Jordan Gill in 2023, the 33 year old bounced back with a points victory over Asad Asif Khan and is now eyeing another shot at a world title.
His adversary, Bateson hails from Leeds and steps into the ring with a record of 20 wins, one loss and a draw, six of which were knockout victories. The 31 year old’s last bout ended in a technical draw against Danny Quartermaine in Sheffield, after both fighters sustained serious injuries from an accidental head clash during the second round.
