Coleraine’s much-anticipated home game against champions Linfield, which was due to be played at The Showgrounds this Sunday, has been “reluctantly” postponed.

The game between two of the favourites to lift the Gibson Cup this season was originally due to be played this Friday 29 August.

It was subsequently shifted die to the Blues extended run in the Conference League as they play Shelbourne in the second leg at Windsor Park this Thursday might.

Last week the game was then switched to the Sunday to accommodate David Healy’s men and their busy European schedule, however the Bannsiders have now confirmed the game has been postponed and will now be rescheduled for a later date.

A statement from the club read: “Coleraine FC can confirm that our Sports Direct Premiership game at home to Linfield has been postpone.

“The Bannsiders had been due to welcome David Healy’s men to The Showgrounds this Sunday (August 31).

“However, due to a late request from Linfield, the game has now reluctantly been postponed. Any tickets bought will be valid for the rearranged fixture.

“A date for the new fixture will be communicated in due course.”

Belfast Live understands the postponement request under Rule 21(b) was agreed to by NIFL’s Competition Committee following consultation with all stakeholders.
