The Holywood man played 16 events on the PGA Tour this season, winning three times, and finishing outside the top 25 only twice
It wasn’t the Tour Championship Rory McIlroy had hoped for, but it brought an end to another trophy-laden and lucrative PGA Tour season for the Holywood man.
All 30 players at East Lake Golf Club started the Tour Championship, and with it, the FedEx Cup, on a level playing field, so McIlroy officially finished the season tied for 23rd in the FedEx Cup after a disappointing performance in the final event.
But that, of course, does not tell the full story or do justice to his campaign on the PGA Tour. Starting his season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, McIlroy got off to a winning start, pocketing the $3,600,000 winner’s cheque in the process.
He then won his second event in four starts when beating J.J. Spaun in a play-off to lift the Players Championship for a second time and add a cool $4,500,000 to his coffers.
But McIlroy’s 2025 will, of course, be defined by the events at Augusta National in April. Stuck on four major titles and having failed to complete the Grand Slam for over a decade, McIlroy, at the age of 35, won the Masters to become only the sixth man to achieve the career Grand Slam.
After those heroics, it’s perhaps unsurprising that McIlroy’s season fizzled out somewhat, at least in relative terms. While he added four more top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, he was unable to register another win.
McIlroy played 16 events on the PGA Tour this season and finished outside the top 25 only twice. With three wins and eight top-10 finishes, the five-time major champion amassed $16,992,418 in total PGA Tour earnings this season, behind only world number one Scottie Scheffler ($26,579,550) and FedEx Cup champion Tommy Fleetwood ($18,496,238).
This season also saw McIlroy’s career earnings on the PGA Tour eclipse the $100,000,000 mark, with his total now standing at an eye-watering $107,981,766.
But while he’s finished for the season on the PGA Tour, McIlroy still has plenty of golf left to play this year. He’ll be the star attraction at the Amgen Irish Open in a few weeks’ time before teeing it up at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Then, the Grand Slam champion will be one of the leaders of the European Ryder Cup team as they travel to Bethpage Black in New York to take on the Americans.
