Emmerdale couple Mack has opened up about how he felt when heard about a new storyline for his character
A surprising separation could be looming for one of Emmerdale’s most cherished couples.
There’s no denying that Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) have endured a turbulent period over recent months. Viewers will remember the duo began their romance in 2021 before exchanging vows in 2023.
Recently in the village, Charity was devastated when her granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) discovered she had cancer whilst attempting to conceive through IVF treatment.

Sarah required a hysterectomy, which has left her unable to bear children naturally. Consequently, Charity volunteered to act as a surrogate and carry Sarah’s baby.
Nevertheless, Mack remains uncomfortable with this arrangement, and now actor Lawrence Robb has hinted that an unexpected breakup might be imminent, reports the Daily Star.
Discussing Mack’s emotional state, Lawrence revealed: “I think he copes initially in his head quite well, but he then changes his mind and then changes his mind again.
“So yes he is a bit like a yo yo when it comes to the surrogacy news. And in my opinion, rightly so, given how they nearly broke up two years ago,” he added, alluding to Charity’s previous consideration of terminating their pregnancy before experiencing an ectopic pregnancy.
Regarding his character’s response to discovering Charity’s surrogacy plans, Lawrence admitted his dismay, saying: “So when I found out the news of the surrogacy, I was like, really? That’s rough.
“So I can totally, for one of the first times in my career, side with Mack on this. I think he was right on the money with his reaction. As while it is a lovely thing that Charity is doing for Sarah, I do think that he is right to be concerned and right to be worried given their past history.”
Yet Lawrence went on to hint that a bombshell Charity and Mack break up could be unfolding on our screens, as Mack attempts to bring down murderer John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).
When questioned whether this marks the final chapter for Mack and Charity, Lawrence revealed: “It’s not looking good.
“Whilst Mackenzie has got the argument with Charity on his plate, he’s also got a pretty critical moment with John on his plate as well. And, combine these two things and it does not spell good things.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
