One Marks & Spencer shopper has been left wondering whether or not they’ve paid too much for their Christmas turkey after ordering a ‘small one’ from the supermarket’s Christmas food range
An M&S customer found themselves second-guessing their choice after placing an order for their Christmas turkey, only to later realise exactly how much they’d splashed out.
Whilst Christmas remains a month away, it’s often wise to begin preparations early to help spread expenses and reduce the stress in the run-up to the big day. December frequently proves costly for many households, as people tend to treat themselves to special food and drinks for weeks before Christmas Day as part of embracing the festive spirit. Those who celebrate Christmas will likely know how pricey both gifts and Christmas dinner can become.
Because of this, some are choosing to purchase these items months ahead to distribute the costs, which is precisely what one shopper decided to do when they ordered their Christmas turkey from M&S Christmas food selection.
Nevertheless, they quickly turned to Reddit to query their choice, as they began wondering whether the amount they’d paid was excessive.
“Ordered my £76 M&S Christmas turkey, now think it’s mad to pay that,” they posted at the beginning of their post.
They continued by explaining they’d been somewhat hurried when making the sudden decision to tackle items on their Christmas checklist, including ordering their festive turkey from M&S.
“Only in the cold light of day thought WTF why did I pay that much?” they pondered, noting that the price was for the smallest turkey the retailer offered. They continued: “Probably will be still too too big and we’ll end uo [sic] eating over 3 or 4 days. Anyone else prebook? What sort of price are you paying?”.
Several individuals quickly flocked to the comments section to share their own thoughts on the price, with some suggesting the cost wasn’t that excessive.
One person responded: “Yeah I went in on an M&S too. Look at it this way – restaurant price for it? Plus this is at least two full meals plus sandwiches etc. Cook it like a champ and enjoy it for a few days.
“The cheapest at my local farm shop is £90 so I’d say £76 isn’t too bad,” a second user commented.
Others mentioned they’d paid comparable amounts when purchasing their turkeys straight from local farmers.
Nevertheless, another individual grumbled about the costs, stating: “F**k, I remember when you could do Xmas dinner for £76.”
The British supermarket giant unveiled their Christmas food collection earlier this year, which quickly bewildered customers due to its pricing, featuring a £195 beef wellington and a £50 turkey and stuffing pie.
M&S has been approached for comment.
