Before Holly Humberstone even reached the chorus of ‘The Walls Are Way Too Thin’, something remarkable was happening in the crowd. Strangers along the barrier were catching each other’s eyes across the darkness of Factory Theatre, exchanging those knowing glances that say “you too?”. They were singing every word back to her and to each other.

The British singer-songwriter has built her reputation on turning these sweet moments into whole experiences, and her Sydney show on Sunday night proved exactly why over 260 million streams still can’t quite capture what she does to a room. Opening with that EP title track before moving into ‘Into Your Room’ and ‘Paint My Bedroom Black’, she immediately invited the audience into her carefully constructed dreamscape.

Making this show particularly special was Humberstone’s willingness to share three unreleased tracks. ‘Cruel World’ arrived with its cynical wisdom, while ‘White Noise’ and ‘To Love Somebody’ offered glimpses into her evolving artistry. The evening built toward her 2024 ‘Work In Progress’ EP. ‘Down Swinging’ and ‘Ghost Me’ showcased Humberstone’s evolution – still confessional, but with harder-won resilience underneath.

With collaborations alongside Matty Healy and Sam Fender under her belt (just this week!), and fresh from supporting Taylor Swift at Wembley Stadium, Humberstone continues to soar. Sunday night at Factory Theatre was proof that her gift isn’t about production value – it’s about the courage to stand in front of hundreds of fans and make them feel so special.
