Today’s White Ribbon Day highlights year-round work to end violence against women and girls
Today’s White Ribbon Day coincides with White Ribbon Northern Ireland launching a powerful new campaign entitled, “16Stories”. Organisers said this initiative marks 16 days of global activism dedicated to eliminating violence against women and girls.
They added that the “16Stories” campaign highlights the personal drive and motivation of the White Ribbon NI team, partner organisations, and dedicated volunteers as they all work toward a future free from gender-based violence.
While the global initiative runs for 16 days, the campaign underscores White Ribbon NI’s unwavering year-round commitment to this critical mission. An eight-person team will deliver challenging yet motivational “Listen, Learn, Lead” workshops across Northern Ireland under a comprehensive outreach plan that spans multiple locations.

Under Tahnee McCorry’s leadership — who is the CEO and founder of White Ribbon NI — this will be carried out in a variety of different spaces. Places such as schools, businesses, sports clubs, government departments, community centres, churches and all three local prisons will host workshops which will have a particular focus on engaging men and boys to challenge the root attitudes that lead to violence.
A statement said: “Our vow is to leave no stone unturned in the quest for a society where everyone can feel safe to live up to their full potential. The ’16Stories’ campaign shares the heart behind our work. Let’s be the generation that gets it right.
“Starting today, we have the opportunity to change the narrative. We’re not just talking about it anymore – we’re here to take action together. We are done waiting. We know that women and girls need to feel safe for everyone to thrive – it’s time to make it happen.”
According to organisers, the campaign redefines strength not as power or dominance, but as respect, support, and standing up for one another. This year’s efforts marks a decisive shift from awareness to action, with the team embracing their role as “the cycle breakers” – committed to dismantling the old ways that allow disrespect, harmful attitudes, and inequality to persist.
“True strength never involves violence or putting others down. It’s about lifting each other up and creating a community where we all win,” the statement continued.
The White Ribbon NI’s team urged everyone in the region to join them in building a future where everyone feels safe and valued, declaring: “Together, we can create this future. No more waiting for change. Let’s get it right, once and for all.”
