Fire service leads tributes to ‘much loved colleague and friend’ following her passing

Ruth-Anne Freeburn passed away on Sunday and will be sorely missed by her friends and family.

The fire service has paid tribute to a much loved colleague and friend who passed away following a short illness.

Ruth-Anne Freeburn from Portadown passed away on Sunday, November 23, at Craigavon Area Hospital bringing much sadness to her family and friends who are heartbroken by her loss.

She had worked with Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service for 25 years and was the Area Administrator for the Southern Area Command. Ruth-Anne has been described as a trusted and valued colleague and much loved friend.

A tribute to Ruth-Anne from the NIFRS said: “It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of our esteemed and much loved colleague Ruth-Anne Freeburn. Ruth-Anne joined us in October 2000 and was the Area Administrator in Southern Area Command for 25 years.

“Ruth-Anne was very proud to work for NIFRS and was not only a trusted, professional and much valued colleague, she was a close personal, valued and much loved friend to us all. “Ruth-Anne will be sorely missed by everyone across NIFRS. “Our thoughts and sympathies are with Ruth-Anne’s family, friends and NIFRS colleagues.”

A post on Funeral Times paying tribute to Ruth-Anne said: “Passed away 23rd November 2025 peacefully at Craigavon Area Hospital after a short illness. Beloved daughter of Mavis and the late David. Much loved Granddaughter of Billy & Lottie and the late Tommy & Marian. Cherished Neice of Shendra & Brent, Janet & Noel, Jill & Phillip, Paul & Barbara, Rodney & Barbara and Stephen.

“Ruth Anne will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her Mum, Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles, Cousins and the wider family circle.“House Strictly Private. Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects in Joseph Poots & Son Funeral Home, 42/44 Bridge Street, Portadown, BT63 5AE on Tuesday 25th November between 6pm and 8pm.“A Celebration of Ruth Anne’s life will take place in St. Columba’s Church, Portadown on Wednesday 26th November at 1pm followed by burial in Kernan Cemetery.”
