As whispers swirl of a potential seventh series set to begin filming next year, there has yet to be any solid confirmation the hit series will make a comeback
It has been four years since the last episode of Line of Duty aired on our screens and fans are still dying to know if we will get a return to AC-12.
As whispers swirl of a potential seventh series set to begin filming next year, there has yet to be any solid confirmation that the hit series will make a comeback.
The award-winning show, which began in 2012 and stars Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar, follows the officers of Anti-Corruption Unit 12 (AC-12) as they investigate corrupt police officers.

Filmed in Northern Ireland, Line of Duty made stars out of its core cast and appeared to wrap up most of its open plots in the series six finale.
Rumours went into overdrive earlier this year when Christina Chong said the cast have been asked about their availability for later in the year.
The actress who played DI Nicky Rogerson in series two and six of the BBC show let the news slip at a Hollywood Saturn Awards in February.
Since then, Compston, McClure and Dunbar have not been able to escape all the Line of Duty questions on whatever show, interview or panel they appear on.
With Co Fermanagh’s own Adrian Dunbar spilling the beans to The Times that creator Jed Mercurio has been writing, here is what the main cast have said so far about a potential return of the series.
Adrian Dunbar
The Enniskillen actor starred as Superintendent Ted Hastings in all six series of the hit BBC crime drama and has said he would love to make a return to the series.
Earlier this month, Dunbar was chatting to Vinny Hurrell and Cate Conway on BBC Radio Ulster about the return ITV series ‘Ridley’ where he got into what he hopes for the future of the show.
Adrian said: “We would all be very excited about getting back to Belfast for another series of Line Of Duty.
“Hopefully that is going to happen. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed, just waiting on your friends at the BBC to make an announcement. But I know Jed (Jed Mercurio) is working away, and I know me and Vicki (McClure) and Martin (Compston) really want to do it…
“So, you know, hopefully next year, we’ll be back in Belfast and rattling around the town, making a nuisance of ourselves.”
He continued: “The wheels, the wheels are turning on that, you know, it’s just, it’s just down to the BBC to make an announcement.”
In an interview with The Times, he mirrored the same sentiment.
He said: “We’re really excited about getting our hands on a Line of Duty script, to see what happens to us. Jed [Mercurio, creator of Line of Duty] is writing.
“We’ve talked to the BBC. It is down to the BBC to make an announcement, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that next year we’ll be working on a new series. No doubt Jed will think of some interesting twists and turns. We are as much in the dark as you are.”
Martin Compston
In March this year, Martin Compston told The Sun that if the show was going to return, it would be “a way off” to ensure everyone would be available to film.
He said: “We’re always talking about possibilities and schedules and whatnot.
“Everybody’s got stuff going on at the minute, so I think anything, unfortunately, would be a way off.
“You know, the day people stop asking about the show will be a sad day, so I’m delighted that people are still excited about it.
“We’d all love to work together again at some point. We still all meet up.
“I met with Jed [Mercurio, the show’s creator], Adrian [Dunbar] and Vicky [McClure] in London before Christmas – we went out for dinner, to hear what everyone’s up to.”
He said that because the cast love the show as much as the fans do, he would only want to return for the right reasons.
“If it was just about doing it for the sake of it, we’d have probably done another three series by now. We really care about the quality of it. So if we come back, it would be for the right reasons.”
“It won’t just be: ‘Get another one done.’ It’ll be because Jed thinks there’s a story to tell.”
Vicky McClure
Back in April, Vicky McClure addressed the swirling rumours about a Line of Duty comeback, stating that she was open to possibilities.
Off the back of speculation that filming had been confirmed for January 2026, Vicky appeared on The Oliver Callan Show on RTÉ Radio 1 where she said that was news to her.
McClure said: “What can I say, I read the same news you all read! Nothing has changed.
“No news I’m afraid, I don’t know where that came from.”
She continued, expressing her reluctance to mislead fans: “The thing is, if I had something to tell you I would, but I don’t! I don’t want to tease people unnecessarily.
“It’s great that they want it, but they’re stories at the end of the day. We don’t want to rule it out.”
