With their sophomore EP Lovers & Others set for release on November 28th, Margate duo debdepan share the new single ‘Ghost’ via Silent Kid Records.

At first, ‘Ghost’ feels like unfamiliar terrain for the band with it’s atmospheric, more melodic bringing a sense of quiet vulnerability but beneath its graceful opening lies a restless undercurrent that matches the tone of the previous 2025 singles. As the track grows into a jagged, angular chord structure. Just as the listener begins to settle into its soft rhythm, the track turns sharp and urgent, revealing the grit and edge that define debdepan’s sound.

“Oh, where did you go? We weren’t exclusive but six months and then you ghost!?” the duo lament. The lyric captures the heart of the song: a journey through longing, self-doubt, and release. “This song had to feel like a journey,” they explain. “It needed a big fat pop chorus to juxtapose the dark and miserable verses.” Recorded in Ramsgate with engineer Mike Collins, the song’s layered guitars and dynamic build push that contrast further, transforming emotional vulnerability into something cathartic and defiant.

The accompanying video takes a different approach, embracing humour and DIY charm. Shot, produced, and edited entirely by the duo around Margate, it sees them dressed as ghosts wandering the streets and coast, capturing the song’s theme with tongue-in-cheek playfulness. “I borrowed my dad’s drone to film it, and if you look closely you can spot the controller under the ghost sheet,” they laugh. “Filming around Margate was pretty embarrassing, but at least the costumes meant we couldn’t see most people laughing at us.”

Playful as it is, the video reflects debdepan’s unpretentious creativity – a mix of imagination, friendship, and fearlessness that has driven them from local beginnings to international stages.

‘Ghost’ closes the trio of singles leading into Lovers & Others, following the cyclical intensity of ‘Habit’ and the raw aggression of ‘The Girl.’ Written over the past year amid Margate’s thriving creative community, the EP explores the complexities of love, identity, and friendship. The duo describe it as “pretty sad girl but also kind of party” – a fitting summary for a collection that moves between melancholy introspection and dance-fuelled release.

Where their debut EP OMEN established their dark pop identity, Lovers & Others expands their scope, diving deeper into rhythm and texture without losing the tension and bite that define their work. It’s a record that feels alive with contrast, light and shadow, chaos and calm, heartbreak and exhilaration.

Since forming in March 2022 after writing together in lockdown, Chelsea and Grace have carved a steady path. Their breakthrough single ‘Darkest Hour’, released in September that year, brought them radio play across Europe and the U.S., a place in the Deutsche Alternative Charts, and a publishing deal with Archangelo Music. Since then, they’ve played festivals across Europe, supported artists including Cumgirl8, Miki Berenyi, and Pete Doherty, and joined The Wants and Traitrs on tour.

Their rise has been powered by word of mouth, striking live shows, and an ever-evolving sound that refuses to sit still. ‘Ghost’ captures that spirit perfectly, both vulnerable and unrestrained, a song that whispers before it roars.
