A man was left stunned when he came across the knitwear in his local charity shop so snapped it up immediately for a jaw-dropping price. He shared the discovery on TikTok
Stumbling upon a valuable treasure in your local charity shop isn’t entirely unusual. By treasure, we’re referring to an item worth significantly more than its modest price tag suggests, which is precisely what happened to one fortunate shopper recently.
Chris, who sells part-time on eBay and Vinted, was absolutely stunned when he discovered a cardigan from a prestigious designer label while browsing the thrift shop one day. He snapped up the Inis Meáin piece at such a bargain price and set himself the task of turning a profit by reselling it online. Sharing his discovery with his 5,300 TikTok followers, he said: “So another great charity shop find coming up.”
He continued: “When I spotted this lady’s cardigan now I immediately recognised the brand Inis Meáin made in Ireland. It was priced up at just £3.50 (€4.03). Now this is a brand that is well worth looking out for, especially if you pick it up at this sort of price.
“Had a look at the label inside and this was in fact 30% cashmere and 70% merino wool. Now people are asking anywhere between £100 (€115) to £160 (€184) for this brand of cardigan and a previous similar one went for £148 (€170) so I think I’ll be listing mine at around £150.”
Inis Meáin operates as a knitting company producing contemporary Irish knitwear, along with menswear and womenswear collections, from the island of Inis Meáin in Ireland.
According to the official website, purchasing any style of cardigan brand new will cost you somewhere between €320 and €460. Given the original retail price, Chris secured himself quite the bargain, despite the charity shop discovery showing signs of wear.
His TikTok video has since attracted 300 likes along with numerous comments from impressed viewers.
One person wrote: “Nice find good luck getting nice price.” Someone else remarked: “Wow what a find!” A third person said: “Incredible find mate.”
Chris disclosed he initially listed the item online for €172 (£150), meaning he’s still waiting to turn a profit.
The part-time reseller had previously stumbled upon a brand new pair of Dr. Martens in a charity shop and was amazed by the price tag.
Following his €51 (around £45) purchase, Chris brought them home for a closer inspection.
Discussing the state of the boots, he added: “There was no wear on the soles, it just needed a little bit of a wipe over. No damage to them and they did both come with laces.”
