Stars include Derry Girl’s Tara Lynne O’Neill and former Love Islander Maura Higgins
A multi-award-winning independent comedy drama is coming to select cinemas across Northern Ireland from this weekend.
The Spin, starring Tara Lynne O’Neill of Derry Girls, Brenock O’Connor (Game of Thrones, Alex Rider) and Owen Colgan (Hardy Bucks), is a “charming” film centred around a pair of “hapless heroes” from Omagh, who embark on an epic road trip across Ireland.
A description reads: “The comedy drama tells the story of Dermot and Elvis, two unlikely, quirky friends from Tyrone.

“Dermot’s dream writing and performing his own music is faltering, while Elvis is happy to devote his time to the music store and his daughter in Omagh.
“The pair are set to be evicted from their much-loved record shop by scheming landlady Sadie after falling behind on the rent.
“A chance discovery of the sale of a box of priceless records in Cork at a rock-bottom price could transform their luck. Dermot and Elvis have two days to collect their prize, but they don’t have any cash and their borrowed car is as old as the hills…”
The Spin, which has a 15 classification, will be showing in select venues the country:
- Omniplex Omagh
- Movie House Cinema Belfast
- Eclipse Cinema Lifford-Strabane
- Ritz Multiplex: Cookstown
- Strule Arts Centre in Omagh (sold out)
Director Michael Head said: “I wanted a story that isn’t about the world’s problems. Something full of community and wonderful Irish spirit that just makes you smile.
“Life’s a bit poxy and if our film brightens ten minutes of it, job done.”
There are cameo appearances from Maura Higgins (Love Island), Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, and Irish music legends Barry Devlin (Horslips) and Steve Wickham (The Waterboys).
Audiences also will also savour Ireland’s stunning scenery while listening to the film’s soundtrack courtesy of Mark McCausland, one half of acclaimed Americana duo ‘The Lost Brothers’ and whose semi-autobiographical story inspired The Spin.
The independently produced feature film is due for a theatrical release in the UK and Ireland early in 2026.
