Emmerdale newcomer Kev, played by actor Chris Coghill, recently told Robert Sugden he was dying – but fans have been left wondering if he’s telling the truth
Chris Coghill appears to have revealed his character’s destiny on Emmerdale, as viewers continue to speculate whether Kev is genuinely dying.
Kev arrived on the ITV soap not long ago, and quickly delivered devastating news to his secret spouse Robert Sugden that he was facing a terminal diagnosis. Whilst he kept details minimal, he left Robert reeling with the revelation he had just six months remaining.
Hinting the timeframe could be even shorter, Kev informed Robert he had accepted his situation and wished to spend his remaining time alongside his husband, offering support. Viewers remained sceptical however, with many theorising Kev could be fabricating the truth.
Yet now, actor Chris seems to have verified that his character will indeed face a tragic conclusion. Producers informed him during preparation for joining the programme that his character would actually perish.
Chris admitted that initially this heartbreaking development made him question whether he desired the part. He revealed: “When I was offered it and I was told he dies I thought, I like Emmerdale and I’d like to be around for a bit, so I’d want to come and do something that had some potential longevity.”, reports the Mirror.
“But when I was told what the character was and I came in and was told they weren’t meeting anybody else I thought, actually this sounds like a right laugh.”
Therefore it appears Kev is telling the truth, with Chris being informed of this before he started portraying the role. Actor Chris also hinted at what fans can anticipate from the newcomer, amid tension with Robert’s partner Aaron Dingle.
The upcoming week’s episodes reveal the moment Aaron discovers who Kev truly is, and Robert’s ‘double life’ comes to light.
However, amidst the drama with Aaron, Kev actor Chris hinted there would be some pleasant moments with Robert’s sister Victoria Sugden. He revealed: “There’s quite a nice little thing underlying with Victoria.
“She sees a vulnerability in him and there’s some quite sweet stuff that happens.”
The same cannot be said with Aaron though, with Chris adding: “We don’t like each other. There is a lot of tension with Aaron. I like working with Danny [Miller though].”
It appears Kev can anticipate drama with the Dingle clan. Chris told The Mirror: “Aaron’s a Dingle but I wouldn’t like to have a fight with Cain. Charity, Chastity, they get involved to a degree, but a lot of it is concentrated between the three of us.”
Chris disclosed that he and his co-stars Danny Miller and Ryan Hawley, who portray Aaron and Robert, all get along well. Of him and Ryan, he said: “We share a dressing room upstairs and it’s hilarious, isn’t it?”.
Ryan responded: “We have a good laugh and we all get on, similar senses of humour. We all enjoy each other’s company.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays
