Jordan Stewart has played his part in Glentoran’s unbeaten start to the new season following his return to the club

A string of impressive performances since his summer return to Glentoran has seen Jordan Stewart become a firm favourite with The Oval faithful once more.

Stewart has been a revelation for the Glens on his return to east Belfast after a decade away.

His brace secured the points in a comeback win over Coleraine last Friday night, with Stewart quick to praise the fans for their contribution in the victory at The Showgrounds.

“We’re under no illusions, when you’re going well and you’re picking up results, you get a massive following anywhere you go,” he said about the travelling support.

“It’s a huge club and it’s for them to come out and show their support and they pushed us over the line there at the end.”

Stewart’s double moved him on to four goals for the season but he insisted the team’s goals are more important than individual.

“Obviously the team comes first. We’ve all worked extremely hard, it’s probably the toughest pre-season of my career and we’re reaping the rewards early in the season,” he said.

“But we’re only eight or nine games in. Yes, it’s a great start, but as I say it’s eight or nine games, nobody’s getting carried away. It’s been super, but we’ll see where we go from here.

“We knew it was going to be tough coming down to Coleraine, two unbeaten teams in league, they’re absolutely flying and they’ve a lot of good players.

“So to come here and ultimately come away with three points, especially being a goal behind at half-time, shows a lot of character and it’s a great win for us.

“Without being arrogant, maybe last week we didn’t do ourselves justice. We could have been a lot better and we knew that, but I feel like we were good value for the win tonight.

“Albeit, you know, Coleraine piled on pressure at the end there for a few minutes, but I feel like we deserved the win. I think everyone to a man was absolutely outstanding.”
