An Irishwoman who ignored her friends’ advice and moved to Lahore in Pakistan, has opened up her “most positive, beautiful experience” living in South Asia. Despite the initial “cultural shock”, Aeva Andersson, revealed in a TikTok video that everyone is “pretty chilled” amid the “insane, chaotic traffic” – the only downside to her new home.

She also praised Pakistani food as “life-changing”. Aeva declared: “I’m in awe every time I take a bite. It’s that good, every single day, breakfast, lunch and dinner”. She also fell in love with the “energy” of Pakistan, meanwhile. “It doesn’t matter what religion you are, everyone is one,” she continued.

“There’s four or five religions by the mosque, which is 400 years old… it’s just basically a symbol of unity, respect, love and peace… there’s nowhere in the world that has that symbol.”

She then compared life in Lahore to her previous home in London. “When I’m in supermarkets, random kids come up to me and welcome me because they know I’m not from here,” Aeva explained.

“I just think that’s so beautiful, they go out of their way to make you feel loved. I have travelled a lot and never come across that before.”

Aeva also praised the “charity” demonstrated by the people of Pakistan. “I think it’s everywhere in the country not just Lahore,” she added. “Like it’s mandatory to give money to people if you have the money to give… I have always had that mindset too.”

On the subject of finances, Aeva disclosed she’s done some modelling work in Pakistan and recently featured on her first billboard. “I’d never had one before, yet I come to Pakistan and within two weeks I have a billboard,” she enthused.

She concluded with advice for others: “It’s just a whole different world. But if it feels right to you, don’t let anybody hold you back from doing what you want to do. Because they don’t know unless they have been there. So do what you want and watch what happens. I definitely feel guided and that my dreams are coming true.”

Motivated by her video, one TikTok user told Aeva: “I would love to visit Pakistan. All the fake Islamophobic propaganda being spread in the UK by the far right makes people scared but I’ve just heard positive things from people who have been there.”

To which she replied: “You should definitely visit! Nowhere is perfect, yes so true so many negative things that are not true and I’m just grateful to share the love and positivity of Pakistan.”

While a second individual shared their experience of visiting Pakistan, saying: “Totally relate, went in 2017, and for 17 days, agree to everything you said. I struggled to spend money, as they are selfless people, and look after guests sincerely. Their northern areas such as Muree is spectacular.”

The government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) currently advises against all travel to certain parts of Pakistan, including the border regions with both India and Afghanistan, the province of Balochistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. It’s crucial to check the most recent travel advice before making any bookings. For full safety and security information, click here.
